The game of life was thrown a major curve ball when the first iPhone was released in 2007. If loneliness, anxiety, and depression are the indicators—as Anthony Silard compellingly makes the case, with a raft of largely unknown research to back him up—then most of us are striking out. Have you ever asked yourself...

…why you are spending less time interacting with people in person and more time sitting alone behind a pixilated screen? As we furiously type into our keypads in search of the Holy Grail – an empty inbox – our happiness and well-being dissipate. Through eye-opening studies, interviews with some of our world’s most captivating thought leaders and stories gleaned from his 25+ years as a leadership trainer and professor, Anthony Silard will help you realize what many of us are losing in the digital age—ourselves and our most important relationships—and provide a roadmap to reclaim them.

Community-Based Partnerships

We are working to empower rural communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America through economic and social partnerships. This partnership works by supporting community members in projects where they determine the focus and scope. The community writes up their own project description and raises the approved community amount for a project that they themselves (rather than donors) determine. Then our donors contribute to match the community-raised funds. This is a simple model that assists rural communities to design and execute their own exit-strategies from poverty. View this PBS special on Dr. Anthony Silard’s work in Africa developing this model. To learn more about our Community-Based Partnerships and download the Action Plan, click here.

Community Facilitators

In our current times, never has it been more critical that we and the people around us learn how to better manage our phones and devices so we can build richer, more meaningful connections with ourselves and each other. Would you like to be a catalyst to give back and make this happen in your community? If yes, we want you to become a Community Facilitator. We are looking for individuals who can help others in their communities engage in healthy, cross-aisle conversations. We will provide everything you need to begin experiencing and facilitating social connection within your own community. Contact kate@socialleaders.org for more information on how to get started today.

The topic of this book has struck a nerve with a lot of people because it targets our collective suffering vis-à-vis our glistening devices. I don’t want to profit from this suffering. I realize we can make an even greater impact by donating the proceeds to programs that foster real-time, in-person socioeconomic growth.

  • What is different about our book sales?

I will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the published book to nonprofit education programs in low-income communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

  • Why should you buy it?

You will join us in helping people regain the control of their lives that they’ve ceded to their screens by purchasing today. This will support two vital, urgent causes: (1) spreading the useful, practical strategies contained in Screened In so we and the people around us in our society can reclaim freedom and meaning in our lives in the digital age; and (2) making a social impact through educational partnerships with low-income communities worldwide.
